Rare Cone Snail at Minnie Water

Be cautious exploring our beautiful Clarence Valley rockpools and remind the kids not to handle creatures they find. North coast photographer Liz Hardaker identified a rare and highly venomous Cone shell sea snail in a rock pool at Minnie Water recently.

The textile cone delivers a deadly combination of chemicals via hollow teeth similar to small harpoons. Biologists have recorded 141 injuries caused by cone shells across the world, including 36 fatalities.
