Brooms Head Whales

Gulmarrad Hail Storm

Monday night saw an extreme hail storm move through the Gulmarrad area causing extensive damage to roofs, windows and vehicles with reports of golf ball, and tennis ball sized hail. There were 19 SES incidents as a result and the clean up is still underway.

Tree Crushes Van in Yamba

Late last week Yamba Fire & Rescue responded to a tree down at Calypso Caravan Park which had landed heavily on an RV and two caravans. The quick reaction of one of the occupants thankfully resulted in no injuries.

Council Chatter ๐Ÿ‘ท

New South Grafton Path

Plans for a new Shared User Path along Bent Street in South Grafton have been released. This 2.5 to 3.0-meter-wide concrete path will stretch from Tyson Street to Bush Drive and is fully funded by the State Governmentโ€™s Get NSW Active Program, with $1.1 million allocated to the project. Maclean Community Precinct Works

Demolition of the existing Maclean Civic Hall is set to commence to make way for the new Maclean Community Precinct after the tender was awarded to All Areas Demolition Excavation at the October Ordinary Council Meeting.

The new Maclean Community Precinct will include a 290-seat auditorium and box office, a function room overlooking the Clarence River, multipurpose meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen as well as outdoor landscaped meeting places and a new carpark.

Jacaranda Thursday ๐Ÿ’œ

It's time to celebrate everything PURPLE! Grafton CBD streets will be closed for the festival.

Jacaranda Thursday will begin at 7am with the 2GF and Clarence Independent FREE breakfast in Market Square. Be there early as the lines are crazy.

Over 220 Market stalls will open in Prince, Pound and Fitzroy Streets early and the town will come alive with three stages of entertainment throughout the day.

Businesses will be dressed up to take out the Rose Bowl trophy and practising their skits to head down to Market Square to compete for the Silver and Gold cups at lunchtime.

Jacaranda Stage | Market Square from 7am

  • 6am to 9am - 2GF live broadcast

  • 9am to 9.30am - Welcome to Country and dance performance by Garimaa Ngahri

  • 9.30pm to 12.30pm - Eli Fahey Band

  • 12.30pm to 2pm - 90 Years in Bloom Business Performances

Youth Stage performance commences from 8am to 2pm

Rockers Stage commencing 9am - 1pm

The excitement in the streets and parks ends at 3pm, but be sure to head to the CLOCKTOWER HOTEL for an afternoon of fun from 3pm onwards for the afterparty with live entertainment by Hekyl & Jive.

๐ŸŽƒ Jacaween Party: A combined celebration with Halloween and Jacaranda Thursday at the Clocktower Hotel in Grafton from 10am this Thursday.

๐Ÿ•บ Halloween Disco: Maclean Bowling Club are hosting a Halloween themed disco with entertainment, lollies for the kids, and a two course meal. Starting from 5pm to 6:30pm, tickets available at the bar.

๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ Jacca Halloween: The Crown Hotel in Grafton is hosting a Halloween and Jacca Thursday party with trick or treat, cocktails, prizes and live music from 3pm.

๐Ÿ‘ป The Ghoul Intent Party: The Good Intent Hotel in South Grafton are hosting a Halloween Party with face painting, trick or treat, games and a haunted room! Come down from 4pm to enjoy.

Friday

๐ŸŽ‡ Venetian Carnival & Fireworks: A variety showcase of the best Clarence Valley's performing talent. Bring a chair or picnic rug to enjoy the evening entertainment starting at 6pm over the mighty Clarence River. A spectacular fireworks display will blast off at 9pm followed by the after party at the Crown Hotel with live music.

Saturday

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ McGrath Trivia Fundraiser: An evening of trivia to support an important cause! Sanctus Brewing Co is proud to host this event presented by Mitre 10 Maclean, Townsend, Yamba, and Woolgoolga, with all proceeds going directly to the McGrath Foundation. Saturday 2nd November, 4.00pm at Sanctus Brewing Co, 5 Re Road, Townsend. Tickets are $10ea and bookings essential.

๐Ÿš— Classic Car Display: Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club members have a wide variety of Vintage Cars on display as part of the Jacaranda Festival. Cars will arrive at 7:30am outside the Grafton Cathedral in Duke St, Grafton.

Melbourne Cup Tuesday

Plenty of local venues will have the races on for you to watch. Some details for special lunch functions on the day are listed below.

  • GDSC: 11:30am, tickets available at reception.

  • Yamba Bowling Club: 11am, purchase tickets online.

  • Maclean Bowling Club: 11am, includes Chinese smorgasbord, tickets available at the bar.
